Pharmasave opens June 13 in Steveston!

Monday, May 30th, 2011

A new Pharmasave store will open its doors in Steveston Village on June 13, 2011 offering superior customer service and unique programs to the Steveston community.

Pharmacist/Owner, Peter Tong and his team are committed to providing customers with a shopping experience “above and beyond” that of a traditional drug store, by making each and every customer’s health, their number one concern.

Among the many services one can expect to find, some of the more unique services include skin-care and cosmetic consultations by the pharmacist, prescription compounding for people and pets (including lactose-free forms of most medications), natural supplement consultation and medication review services, gait assessment through state-of-the-art equipment, breastpump service and rentals, sleep apnea assessments, and a unique diabetes program run by a certified diabetes educator pharmacist!

With over 100 stores across British Columbia, and over 400 stores across Canada, Pharmasave has been growing strong since its humble beginning.  The chain of independently owned stores was formed in 1981 when two small groups of independent pharmacies, United Pharmacies Ltd. and Western Drug Mart, joined forces.

Pharmasave’s success is primarily due to their non-traditional approaches to pharmacy practice and active involvement in the lives of their consumers.

“In 1981, pharmacists were dispensing medications and doing some counseling.  Today, Pharmasave’s professional pharmacists are playing a much more proactive role in people’s health.  In contrast to many of the larger pharmacy chains, we encourage our pharmacists to expand their traditional boundaries, by getting out from behind the counter, talking to their customers face to face, and assisting in their important health decisions.” – Dave Reston, CEO of Pharmasave’s Pacific region.

Peter believes strongly in the Pharmasave philosophy, and welcomes you to join him in this new approach to customer care.

Ships to Shore Steveston 2011

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

June 3 – 7, 2011 four of North America’s most popular tall ships will dock in Garry Point Park.

Mock gun battles, free viewing and shipboard tours, pirate-themed outdoor movie nights, day sails, a community entertainment stage and a farmers market are all part of the fun at Ships To Shore Steveston 2011. Most activities are free, however, a limited number of exclusive access tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 11, 2011.

Leading the small fleet are the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain, from Washington State. A brigantine and a top-sail ketch, both over 30-metres (100-feet) in length, the pair are popular favourites whenever they sail, staging mock gun battles reminiscent of the days of pirates and privateers. The Lady Washington was also featured in Pirates of the Caribbean 3: The Curse of the Black Pearl, along with other movies.
While in Richmond, the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will stage two mock gun battles on June 4 and 5, which will be viewable for free from Garry Point Park. A limited number of tickets will be available to sail on board the two ships as they stage their epic gun battles.
Also featured in Ships To Shore Steveston 2011 are the Adventuress, a 40-metre (133-foot) gaff-rigged schooner, originally launched in 1913, and the Zodiac, a 39-metre (127-foot) gaff-rigged schooner dating from the 1920s. Among the fastest ships of their days, these two stunningly beautiful schooners will offer ticketed three-hour day sails on June 4 and 5 as well as free onboard tours.

Tickets are available starting May 11 through our Registration Call Centre at 604-276-4300 or in person at Steveston Community Centre and Britannia Heritage Shipyard in Richmond.
Ships To Shore Steveston 2011 is presented by the City of Richmond. Platinum sponsor is Vancouver International Airport. Gold sponsors are Coast Capital Savings and Port Metro Vancouver. Community partner is Urban Impact and media partner is CTV.
Ships To Shore Steveston 2011 also kicks off an exciting series of events that will be held in Richmond through the summer. From one of Canada’s most popular and longest-running Canada Day celebrations, the Steveston Salmon Festival, to an expanded Richmond Maritime Festival, to innovative new events such as Mortal Coil Performance Society’s production of Salmon Row at Britannia Heritage Shipyard, the new series will be an eclectic blend of arts, sports, culinary, cultural and community events and celebrations occurring in the Steveston area from June through September.
